Concluding this mini-series for a bit, I want to answer an unresolved tension from yesterday’s post: what do we do about our hidden, often self-interested motives?
In many cases, I think the correct answer is nothing at all. Elsewhere in Carlsmith’s On Sincerity, he quotes C.S. Lewis:
Do not waste time bothering whether you ‘love’ your neighbor; act as if you did.
