There’s a lot of narcissism in self-hatred.
I wrote yesterday about our relationship with our past selves, and about Joan Didion’s anger and sadness with her twenty three year-old self.
One antidode to this feeling is remembering that we aren’t, and have never been, the main character. The world is full of imperfect people. We are no exception, and sometimes that’s fine. We should strive to be better, yes, but we also shouldn’t worship the problem.
